Asteroids

Asteroids are celestial bodies that are smaller than planets, they are made up of rocks and iron, and have diameters ranging from several meters to hundreds of kilometers. Asteroids are usually called small planets, minor planets, or planetoids. Most asteroids lie in a region called asteroid belt, because these asteroids lie between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter.

There are several asteroids that do not orbit in the asteroid belt, for example Trojan that follows Jupiter’s orbit and Apollo that passes Mars’s orbit.

Several examples of large asteroids are as follows.

1. Pallas, its diameter is 560 km.
2. Vesta, its diameter is 390 km.
3. Juno, its diameter is 190 km.
